MOORHEAD — One man is dead and police are searching for a suspect following a fatal shooting in south Moorhead early Sunday morning.Officers from the Moorhead Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the 2700 block of 14th Street South just after 9:30 Sunday morning. Callers also indicated that someone may have been struck by gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Moorhead Police Sgt.
Joe Bannan said it appears the shooting happened outside the residence, the address of which is not being released at this time.Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or the suspect's description. The suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a light green, newer-model Chevrolet midsize SUV.
The individual is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.The public is being asked to avoid the four-block area surrounding the crime scene, which is located near the Probstfield Center for Education. Police say the area will be blocked off while investigators continue to process the active crime scene.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to assist with the homicide investigation and should be on scene this afternoon.At this time, police say the shooting does not appear to be a random act.Anyone with information about the vehicle or the suspect is urged to contact the Red River Regional Dispatch Center at (701) 451-7660 and ask to speak with a Moorhead Police supervisor.
