A youth group has taken on the work of two gardeners who have been laid off at the National Court in Port Moresby. And that is at no extra cost – the group is being hired at the “price” of two. And according to first assistant secretary Collin Murray, they will do a better job of keeping the gardens clean and the grass down.
Mr Murray said the Raipex Youth Group of Erima would be paid K200 a fortnight, the same as the gardeners were. Youth leader John Ovia said his group was only too happy to take the job. “When we get paid for a job like this, we give out K5 as pocket money to each member and what is left over is put in an account we use for other activities.
” The group started work outside the courthouse this week. T o see this and access more stories from our 55 years old history from 1950’s – 2000’s, do visit our Post-Courier archive or email [email protected].
