When it comes to sweet treats, you really can't beat the classics. And a delicious slice of cornflake cake smothered in chocolate is enough to take anybody back to their school days. The crunchy, sweet slices are famously easy and quick to make, as there is no baking involved.

So if it's been a while since you snacked on one of these, why not spend this weekend whipping up a batch? And according to one baking pro on social media, one simple ingredient will evelate your cornflake cake to new heights. Food blogger and recipe creator Jane's Patisserie recently shared her cornflake cake recipe on TikTok , which is made up of just four simple ingredients. However, one of these - golden syrup - is what's going to make your batch taste so much more delicious, according to the commenters.

One person praised Jane for her inventive way of preparing the cakes, saying: "Buying the ingredients tomorrow! Why did I never think to do this in a tray? So much better than individual cakes." Another wrote: "Oh yes!!! Deffo has to have the golden syrup. Just like school.

" Here's everything you need to make this nostalgic treat. Ingredients 175g unsalted butter 175g golden syrup 500g milk chocolate 250g cornflakes Method First, cut the butter into cubes and melt in a pan along with the golden syrup. Do this until it starts to bubble 'ever so slightly', then take off the heat.

Break up the chocolate into small cubes, or you can use chocolate chips to make it even easier. Stir the chocolate into the butter and syrup mixture until melted. Grab a large bowl and pour in your cornflakes.

Add the chocolate and give everything a good mix to combine, making sure the cornflakes are all evenly covered. Take a lined nine-inch square tin and pour in the chocolate cornflakes, making sure to press it down nice and firmly. Leave to set in the fridge for a couple of hours.

Then take it out of the tin, slice it up into squares and enjoy..
