Oklahoma's Brent Venables makes stance clear while commit plans for Texas visit

Venables gave his thoughts on "commitments" taking visits elsewhere on Tuesday. It's his policy that Oklahoma commitments don't take visits elsewhere, and even in 2024's NIL and transfer portal-happy college football universe, he's sticking with it.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has long been a staunch believer that a commitment means a commitment on the recruiting trail. That meant if you were committed to play football for Clemson, you weren't taking a look anywhere else. Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables coached under Swinney for five seasons as his defensive coordinator at Clemson.

Now that he's the head coach at Oklahoma, he feels the same way. Venables gave his thoughts on "commitments" taking visits elsewhere on Tuesday. It's his policy that Oklahoma commitments don't take visits elsewhere, and even in 2024's NIL and transfer portal-happy college football universe, he's sticking with it.

Venables on his “no visit” policy for commits: “You’re not committed if you’re visiting other places.” #Sooners This comment comes off the heels of an On3 report that states Oklahoma five-star offensive tackle commit Michael Fasusi is visiting Texas this weekend when the 9-1 Longhorns, ranked No. 3 in the nation, take on Kentucky.

Fasusi committed to Oklahoma in August, but Texas was one of his other top teams before the commitment to the Sooners. According to that report, Fasusi had originally planned on being in Norman to see the 5-5 Sooners take on No. 10 Alabama.

One would imagine that Venables won't be too happy about this visit, but when push comes to shove, one would also imagine that he'd still very much like Fasusi to sign on signing day. Fasusi is ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Does Venables still view him as a top Oklahoma commitment or does this visit to Texas change things for both parties? We'll have to wait and find out that answer after this weekend..
