The Cowboys finally figured out how to run the ball, and that proved critical to the offense's success, as 269 of their 421 yards of offense came on the ground.

Of course, quarterback Garret Rangel was responsible for 77 of those yards on only five carries. It was his ability to move the chains with his legs that likely created room for Ollie Gordon to rush for 6.7 yards per carry while Oklahoma State's other backs averaged at least 4.

3 yards per attempt. Quarterback Alan Bowman rushed for 19 yards on three attempts running the packages Oklahoma State installed with Rangel in mind. He picked up at least 2 yards on each carry with his longest going for 12.

Mike Gundy suggested Oklahoma State would keep Bowman's success as a runner in mind this week. Through the first six games, Bowman only picked up 2-plus yards on 5-of-10 runs, ignoring sacks, with his longest attempt going for 8 yards. Through that six-game stretch, Gordon only topped 50 rushing yards once against an FBS opponent when he finished with 76 against Kansas State.

His 5.1 yards per carry average against the Wildcats was also the only time this season he averaged more than 4.5 yards per rush.

KEY MATCHUP OSU defense vs Baylor RBs This will remain the key matchup until Oklahoma State finally figures out how to get even occasional stops on the ground. Against Oklahoma State, BYU running backs picked up at least 3 yards or scored a touchdown on 18-of-26 carries, and they combined to average 6.4 yards per carry.

At one point, BYU completely abandoned the pass and ran 10 straight times with either a back or quarterback to start the second half. In the process, BYU picked up 79 yards across two drives and scored one touchdown before the Cougars ever attempted a second-half pass. Baylor's top two running backs, Bryson Washington and Dawson Pendergrass average 5.

7 and 4.4 yards, respectively, and have combined to rush for 522 yards and four touchdowns. PLAYERS TO WATCH OSU Safeties Lyrik Rawls/Kobe Hylton Regardless of safeties Trey Rucker and Dylan Smith's status on Saturday, both Rawls and Hylton will likely see extended time against the Bears.

Both guys started slow this season while they recovered from injury, but Hylton has played at least 40% of snaps in the last three games and Rawls has played at least 67% in the last two games and averages 41% of snaps this season. According to PFF, Hylton gave up two catches on four targets against BYU for only 10 yards, while Rawls gave up nothing on the lone target against him. Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson Robertson completed 60% of his passes this season and has yet to throw an interception to any opponent not named BYU or Iowa State.

Both are tied for sixth in the nation with 12 picks this season. Among Power Four quarterbacks with at least 12 carries this season, Robertson ranks fifth, averaging 7.8 yards per rush on 25 attempts, which puts him just ahead of West Virginia quarterback Garret Greene, who averaged 8.

6 yards on 10 carries against the Cowboys earlier this fall. WHO WINS AND WHY? From columnist Bill Haisten: Comparing each program’s current roster and quarterback situation, Baylor at its best would be better than OSU at its best. We may have seen the best version of the Cowboys last week at BYU, and that game ended with a 38-35 Oklahoma State setback.

Baylor wins this one 34-20 because it’s a home game and it’s a chance to build on the positive result of a week ago, when the Bears scored 34 second-half points and rocked Texas Tech 59-35 in Lubbock. Baylor is better than its 1-3 Big 12 record would suggest. After an awful first quarter, there was a six-point loss to BYU.

In Baylor’s seven-point loss at Colorado, the Buffaloes converted on a Hail Mary TD and extended that game to overtime..
