NEW DELHI: As trends showed deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis leading from Nagpur South West assembly seat, his mother Sarita Fadnavis expressed confidence that her son will become the next chief minister of Maharashtra. Sarita told ANI, "Of course, he will become the chief minister. He has worked tirelessly, day and night, for this moment.

" As trends solidified Maharashtra's political landscape, the ruling Mahayuti alliance , led by the BJP, Shiv Sena (led by Eknath Shinde ), and Ajit Pawar's NCP faction, appeared poised for a landslide victory in the 2024 Assembly elections. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, leading from the Nagpur South West assembly seat by nearly 20,000 votes, attributed the coalition's stellar performance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and the popular slogan, "Ek hai toh safe hai, Modi hai toh mumkin hai.

Shinde and his son, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, were seen jubilantly celebrating with supporters.

The opposition, however, reeled from the decisive mandate. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate admitted their campaign had fallen short, saying, "The results are not what we expected. We need to introspect and work harder to meet public expectations.

" Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut contested the outcome, remarking, "This cannot be the decision of the people of Maharashtra. We know their true sentiments." The Mahayuti’s triumph painted Maharashtra saffron, with the BJP alone poised to win 125 of the 149 seats it contested.

Combined with its allies, the alliance was on track to secure 219 seats, leaving the opposition INDIA bloc with a meager 51. Jharkhand offered a contrasting narrative, where voters appeared to favor continuity. The ruling coalition, led by chief miinister Hemant Soren’s JMM, maintained an edge, with the JMM leading in 30 seats, the BJP in 27, and the Congress in 14.
