Odisha Floods: CM Mohan Majhi conducts aerial survey as situation remains grim

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reported that the flood situation in Balasore, Odisha, is serious. On September 18, Chief Minister Majhi visited Balasore district, where he conducted an aerial survey and assessed the damage caused by flooding from heavy rains in the Baliapal and Bhograi blocks. He also reviewed the flood situation at Balasore. After conducting an aerial survey of the affected areas on Wednesday, Majhi stated, “The state government is taking all possible measures to expedite rescue and relief operations in these regions.” Chief Minister Mohan Majhi later reviewed the flood situation in Balasore district. He was joined by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, as well as local MPs, MLAs, and officials from the district administration. The Chief Minister directed the establishment of a district-level health service team to safeguard the affected population from water-borne diseases. He stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in homes and schools within the flood-affected areas. Additionally, he inquired about the adequacy of food provisions for the affected individuals and requested that the food supply be extended as necessary. The Chief Minister also instructed that polythene be provided to those whose homes have been destroyed. The Chief Minister stated that flash floods, triggered by the Subarnarekha River surpassing its danger level, have inundated several areas of Balasore district. This situation has worsened due to heavy rainfall over the past 3-4 days, caused by a deep depression. “Six blocks and 8,000 hectares have been inundated by floods, affecting 35 gram panchayats across three blocks. The Balasore district administration has evacuated 2,000 residents from low-lying areas and provided them with shelter in various locations.” said CM. The Chief Minister stated that the full moon has caused high tides in the sea, preventing water from flowing out. He expressed optimism that the situation will improve within a day after the full moon. ” Flood effected people are receiving cooked meals. Eight teams from the Fire Services, three teams from ODRAF, and one team from NDRF have been deployed to assist villages that are cut off from the outside world. More teams will be deployed if necessary,” added CM. The Chief Minister has ordered that all necessary facilities, quality healthcare, and relief assistance be promptly provided to the areas affected by the floods. The District Magistrate and officials from the district administration are monitoring the levels of the Subarnarekha and Jalka rivers around the clock. Feedback from MPs, Ministers, and MLAs has been gathered concerning the damage, as well as relief and rescue operations. The District Collector has also submitted a report. The Chief Minister stated that directives have been issued to ensure immediate support reaches the flood-affected individuals and to expedite rescue and relief efforts.
