Former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA from Bari, Sunanda Das, announced her resignation from the party on Wednesday, citing “continuous neglect” and “mental harassment.” Das accused senior party leaders, including former organising secretary Pranab Prakash Das, of denying her the opportunity to contest in the 2024 assembly elections and claimed she was “betrayed” by his actions. “I was promised a party ticket by Pranab Prakash Das, who even swore by the name of his late father, Ashok Das, that he would support my candidacy.
He repeatedly praised my work in the constituency, yet consistently supported my political rival, Biswa Ranjan Mallick, causing me immense mental distress,” she stated. Das further alleged that the process of ticket distribution within the party had been influenced by administrative officers, specifically naming D.S.
Kutey and Ashish Singh as the contacts to whom aspirants were directed to secure a nomination. Reflecting on her journey with the BJD, Das claimed that her initial entry into the party had been strategically aimed at sidelining former BJD MLA Debasis Nayak. Despite her dedication to serving the people of Bari since her 2019 Assembly win, she expressed deep disappointment at being overlooked for the upcoming election.
