Osun State chairman of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Tosin Odeyemi on Friday slammed loyalists of Chief Boniface Aniebonam, for deliberately misinforming the public on the judgement delivered by an Abuja High Court on Thursday. Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Friday, Odeyemi described the alleged deliberate twisting of the facts as contained in the delivered judgement as an act that further exposed the perpetrators and showed them as characters that can never be trusted with power or responsibility. Recall that Justice M.

A. Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Thursday declined jurisdiction in a matter filed by a faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, wherein they sought to challenge the legitimacy of the leadership of Chief Boniface Aniebonam, Dr Agbo Major and others. The claimants had asked the court to restrain some former officials of the party from convening meetings, conducting congresses or presiding over the party’s National Convention because they have been expelled from the party.

In his judgement, Odeyemi stated that Hassan affirmed that internal party disputes are beyond judicial intervention and declined jurisdiction in the matter. He added that, “The sinister faction went to the public, stating that ‘the court effectively dismissed all reliefs sought by the claimants, thereby affirming that the Dr Agbo Major-led NNPP leadership remains the legitimate authority overseeing the party’s affairs.” Odeyemi wondered where the factional group saw what they put out to the public saying that it remains a mystery to every right-thinking individual.

He noted that the judge did not go to the merit of the case at all, he only declined the jurisdiction which simply means the status quo remains, Odeyemi affirmed. The party chieftain cautioned the group, which he said has no records with INEC as required by the Electoral Act, to desist from what can further destroy their partly-managed integrity in the society. “Inasmuch as it is only political parties who can determine who their leaders are, the party has rejected these people and we have chosen who should lead us, so the ranting faction should wake from their illusions,” he said.
