Rhea C. Boyd, 78, a beloved member of the Summerville, South Carolina community passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Rhea was born on February 25, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, a daughter of the late Ransom Bradley Carle and Ruth Pitcher Carle.
Rhea was known for her warm heart, kindness, and dedication to her community, family and friends. Rhea grew up in Fairhaven, MA before attending school in North Carolina and eventually moving to Summerville, SC. She was a proud graduate of High Point University which is where she met the love of her life, Buford Boyd, Jr.
She earned a bachelor's degree in education and went on to work as a teacher for various public schools in South Carolina's Dorchester District Two school system. She was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, a member of the Charles Peace Sunday school class, and attended Women's Bible Study. Her generosity, kindness, and commitment to her career left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She cherished her time spent with family. Rhea enjoyed volunteering at her Church, shopping, playing Mahjong, attending Clemson football games and riding her bike throughout the streets of Summerville. Her family was her pride and joy.
She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving husband, Buford Boyd, Jr.; her children: Jana Stokes (Scott) and Kimberly Alber (Mike); her grandchildren: Cole Stokes, Will Alber, Jack Alber and Anna Grace Alber.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, at 1:00pm at Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. 3rd S. Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
The family will receive friends an hour prior from 12pm to 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
