Oahu's weekend weather patterns appear set for mild, with the National Weather Service in Honolulu forecasting light winds and a mix of landward and seaward breezes. According to the National Weather Service, locals can expect light showers near the coast at night and scattered afternoon showers inland. However, early next week could see a shift with the approach of a new cold front that could spice up the weather over the Hawaiian Islands, especially on the western side.

The National Weather Service reports that "Light winds will prevail through the weekend, with daytime sea breezes and overnight land breezes common across the state." Residents should be prepared for an increase in showers as Monday turns into Tuesday, thanks to a cold front edging closer from the west, and a consolidation of high-pressure systems to the east. Despite this looming change, the weekend promises to be a calm weather interlude, with moderate south to southeast winds picking up again early in the week.

This lull in robust weather is the result of a holding pattern, with a stationary front situated some 300 miles north of Kauai and a high pressure centered far to the east-northeast of Hilo. As this tableau persists into the weekend, sea breezes will dominate the afternoons, and overnight land breezes will continue to be the norm. "The new front to the west will edge closer to the state early next week, while a pair of high pressure systems consolidate closer to the islands," the National Weather Service further clarifies.

On the water, mariners will experience light variable winds, with the same ridge effect contributing to calm seas near the coasts. While surfers may find moderate waves on north and east facing shores persist into the weekend, those fronting south should brace for more subdued conditions. "Surf along south facing shores will remain up today, with a return to seasonable levels Sunday into early next week as a small south swell moves through", the National Weather Service provides a heads up for beachgoers looking to catch the next wave.

Pilots can anticipate "mostly dry and stable conditions," which are forecast to stay put through the weekend, making for generally favorable flying weather in the region, as per the National Weather Service. While mostly clear skies may seem like the pilot's dream, brief periods of Mountain Valley Reduced Flight Rules (MVFR) conditions in showers are not off the table. No advisories, watches, or warnings are currently in place, offering a mild prelude to what could be a wetter scenario as the week progresses and the front moves closer to the islands.
