NZ businesses struggling to see returns from their AI spend - the factors holding them back

Many NZ firms see marginal gains from AI despite heavy investment.

New Zealand companies are investing in artificial intelligence, but “gains aren’t meeting expectations,” according to Cisco’s latest AI Readiness Index. “New Zealand’s AI readiness has slightly declined in the past year, despite all the investment and hype,” Cisco’s New Zealand country manager Jess McFadden said. The index is based on a double-blind survey of 3660 senior business leaders from organisations with 500 or more employees worldwide.

In the local results, a majority of companies say there are no or only marginal gains in augmenting or assisting current processes. The results gel with a Gartner survey that found individual employees saw gains from AI, but businesses found tangible return-on-investment elusive ..
