I’ve had a great time playing Strands with you for the past week, but my time has come. I pass the torch, though I will return in two weeks to write more of these guides and uncover words with you all. It’s Friday, let’s solve this puzzle! Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games.

It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Spoilers ahead. Read on for today’s theme and some hints to help you uncover today’s words. Instead of giving you the first two letters of each word, today I’m giving out three hints instead of two.

Today’s Theme: What’s the buzz? Hint : Could be referring to a Transformer, but more likely an insect. Clue: Anatomical vocabulary Here are the first two letters of each of today’s words: JE PY LI CA PA GA Remember, spoilers ahead! Today’s spangram is: GAMESHOWS Here’s the full list of words: JEOPARDY PYRAMID LINGO CATCHPHRASE PASSWORD Here’s the completed Strands grid: Today's Strands Screenshot: Erik Kain I like how the puzzle-setters at the New York Times Games section used “What’s the buzz?” for yesterday’s Strands and then used “Buzzing in” for today’s. That’s cute.

Of course, yesterday was all about bumblebees and today is about GAMESHOWS, which was surprisingly tricky! I was super lost even after finally finding a couple of these words. What does PYRAMID have to do with LINGO? Of course, I found SHOWS pretty early on, and returned to that, working backwards to uncover GAMESHOWS and from there I had a much better footing. It was still tough finding JEOPARDY and CATCHPHRASE and PASSWORD, however, though I suspect easier for people who watch a lot of game shows.
