The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper's larger and long-running crossword.
Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays. Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

I didn’t figure out anything on the Across clues on my first pass. However, I got all the Down clues except SUAVE on my first attempt. Clearing up the missing letters from there was academic.
I don’t think I ever would have figured out the 5 and 6 Across clues as standalone things. However, I thought it was fun in hindsight that the first one borrowed letters from “sub” and “shish," while TAPAS is an anagram of “pasta.” See you tomorrow for more NYT Mini fun!
