STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Nearly 200 Staten Islanders made their way to Father Capodanno Boulevard last Friday afternoon to attend a free event aimed at stemming catalytic converter theft.

Co-hosted in the parking garage of the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex by the NYPD Borough Patrol Staten Island, members of the NYPD auto crime unit and the office of District Attorney Michael E. McMahon, participants had their vehicles’ catalytic converters marked with a unique serial number by the NYPD. The numbers were then entered into the CatGuard database in the hopes of deterring potential thieves and scrap metal buyers.
