FRISCO, Texas — Southeastern Louisiana University track and field member Esther Nwanze cemented her claim as the top hurdler and in doing so was named the Southland Conference’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the SLC office announced on Wednesday. Nwanze, a senior sprinter and hurdler from Baton Rouge and the Southeastern school outdoor 400-meter hurdles record holder already, won the 400-meter hurdles competition last Saturday at the Pelican Relays, hosted by Southern University, by stopping the clock in 58.52 seconds.

That time bettered her mark from the Lurline Hamilton Invitational two weeks ago which already had her leading the Southland’s performance list. Her time from the Pelican Relays now has her 19th on the NCAA East Region performance list and 33rd on the NCAA Division I performance list. This is Nwanze’s first Outdoor Athlete of the Week award of the season and second of her career.

She previously won the award on March 20, 2024. Nwanze and the Lions came home for their annual home meet, the Strawberry Relays, which began yesterday and concludes today, starting at 9:30 a.m.
