A critical care nurse is taking on the London Marathon to give something back to the charity which cared for her partner following a serious crash. Emily Gent, of Gedney Hill , is gearing up to complete the famous 26 mile course on April 27 when she will be raising money for East Anglian Air Ambulance After witnessing the air ambulance’s life saving work during her work on the Critical Care Unit at Peterborough City Hospital, Emily has also experienced its importance on a personal level after it helped her partner, Ryan, in 2022. Following a serious motorbike accident, the emergency air service transported him to a hospital for life saving surgery.
Emily said: “East Anglian Air Ambulance receives no regular government funding and relies entirely on the support of the community. “The service is dear to my heart, and I have had first-hand experience with them rescuing and preserving the lives of my family, friends and patients I have looked after, both on the wards and intensive care. “I have a farming family background and I have had neighbouring farmers that have required the emergency service following machinery accidents.
“In my spare time I enjoy riding horses. Unfortunately, accidents happen and almost everyone who rides knows someone who has required immediate assistance. In a rural area that is almost always EAAA.
” Despite a love of long-distance running that started in secondary school, this will be her first race. Ryan and Emily’s parents will be travelling to London to support her marathon efforts. If you would like to support Emily and help her beat her £2,500 target, please visit: https://www.
