The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Katsina State Command, has nabbed a 60-year-old man for supposedly damaging high-tension electric wire. The command’s spokesman, DSP Buhari Hamisu, shared this with the press when showcasing the suspect in Katsina. Hamisu revealed that Hassan Abdullahi, the suspect, was apprehended by NSCDC personnel from the Funtua Division.
“The special Anti-vandal patrol team attached to Funtua division, successfully apprehended the suspect, of Lasanawa village in Maska, Funtua Local Government Areas. “The suspect was later handed to the state command headquarters for further investigation. ”Abubakar is a suspected vandal of high tension electric cables belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and theft.
“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to committing the crimes and revealed that on Aug. 28, 2024, he went to the outskirts of the village, climbed high-tension electric poles, and vandalised the wires. “He also disclosed that he removed different items, packed some of the items in bags, and headed to scrap dealers at Funtua town,” he said.
According to him, after further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect encountered two scrap dealers in Funtua town who declined to purchase the items from him. The items recovered from the suspect included an angle iron, Channel iron, pension clamp, strap, isolator handle, and scattered disc insulator. He stated that additional items found were an adaptor socket, bolt and nuts, J-huck, spindles, electric aluminum conductors, a spanner, pinches, and an iron rod.
He also mentioned that the suspect would face prosecution in court once the investigation is concluded. The NSCDC spokesman urged the people of the state to abide by the law and follow regulations. He assured that the command would persist in its efforts to expose the activities of vandals, economic saboteurs, and other criminals in the state.
The spokesman expressed gratitude to the public for their ongoing cooperation and urged them to provide useful intelligence to assist in uncovering the activities of troublemakers in the state. He emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a peaceful environment for the people of the state and the nation as a whole..
