C ongratulations and Happy New Year to all who crossed over to 2025. Many would have resolved within themselves to be the best they could be. However, most times, it might be a fair-weather decision.

One can, out of the blue, choose to reset their mindset and be on the positive side of life. It is a simple decision and very doable. Interestingly, apart from personal New Year resolutions, it is for all, both old and young, men and women, youth and children, to know that there is something each and every one can add to make society a better place.

Since life is for the living, we are not to live extravagantly, but responsibly and accountably. Knowing that no one knows when their end would come, how then do we appreciate the opportunity of being in the land of the living? The only way is to be good candidates for heaven and earth. What offers and sacrifices are we ready to brandish in the new year? We can only represent God’s words through our characters and conduct.

What attitude are we readily willing to drop and say bye-bye to? Who are we in our various businesses, corporate services, apprenticeships, traffic operations, schools, food vending, fashion designing, airport staffing, real estate, accounting, engineering, and various other professions? Where exactly are we, and what are we doing with our various opportunities and accomplishments? Now, are we men and women who must be involved in hanky-panky shoddy deals to live? Must we, as business people, get involved in double-dealing to shortchange others to make a profit? Must apprentices be reminded of how poor their parents are, and on the lowest ebb of society for that business to move? We can apply caution with our daily activities to make society a better place in the new year. Now that the new year is here, what plans do we have to wear that deep good name which is better than riches and wealth? Yes, the pendulum of life is gradually shifting from responsibility to what people describe as the new normal, which means the quest to make money and live an ostentatious lifestyle. Wealth is worthy when it comes from the right source.

This expedition to become rich is reigning supreme among the youths. It got so bad that a boy was alleged to have strangled his mother for ritual purposes. Should such shameful stories be flying in our media spaces? No, in the New Year, things must be done better.

Now, young men and women who want to be wealthy in the future should build a career path, work hard with diligence, and see the result of hard work. Then, aspire to lead through education, which is the best legacy. Genuine businesses are also worthy for one to make wealth, if only the individual would apply all honesty associated with the business.

Those who tamper with imported goods before they are sold you are not ready to be part of 2025. Apprentices who frolic with the wives of their masters because Oga’s age is no longer giving; know that you are not a futuristic fellow. Again, youths who have soiled their hands with blood, those who are planning to go into several ritual killings (Baff soap) to make it big, you still have a conscience that can make things happen better.

Youths who are cyber-crime experts, know the record of a popular Gucci designer freak and how he is cooling his feet in a police station. Where are our accomplished men and women in various industries; whose hand are you holding to lift up in 2025? Must every staff and person around you be trampled upon for you to be the boss or Madam? I have not forgotten a TikTok page where I saw two different staff members who were retiring in Apapa and Mainland, and other staff ran out to woo and boo at them. One then asks, what were their conducts in their heyday to deserve such embarrassment? Many think that the sins God abhors are those of sexual rascality; many so-called men and women of God have destroyed the ancient landmark of Christianity.

Some claim God called them while some called themselves; but the onus is on them to do the right things. Men of God have worked under the cloak of devilish acts and divination. Men and women of God have taken over members’ wives in the name of deliverance.

There are lots of irresponsibility and irregularity that some men in the pulpit display which they should repent of. When a big-boy man of God was accused of real estate fraud and money laundering, it sent spines wriggling. How will his members see him after his arraignment with the police? Will they still trust their spiritual leader, or will that disperse his members forever? Men of God who also consult the gods, where is your future? Are you part of the 2025 progression? To commercial drivers who are kings of the road, who do not obey any sign of traffic rules, number your days yourselves.

When you jump and disobey traffic rules, what usually is the benefit of that recklessness and unnecessary chaotic situation? In 2025, make it a better year; do the right thing and obey all traffic rules and regulations. In the same vein, a lot of people have the habit of pointing accusing fingers at the government for many challenges, even the ones they can manage and otherwise. Where are the transporters who increase the transport fare as it pleases them without throwing caution to the winds? Where are the traders in the market who also skyrocket the prices of goods and services on their own details? Where are the executives who must destroy a young girl before she is employed in an organization? Where are those who ab initio claim six months upfront salaries as a condition before employment is offered to a fresh graduate? Now that 2025 is here, how would you make society a better place? Where are the lecturers who molest students sexually, both male and female? More especially those who must devour a female student before she finally passes a compulsory course to graduate? Where are those who fail students just to punish them instead of implicating themselves with sex for marks? who was allegedly accused of sexual molestation a female student is still in Abuja High Court.

Where are the husbands and wives who cheat perpetually on each other without giving a hoot? Where are the women who live with their husbands and produce children for other men? In this year, will you still continue in your criminality or change your ways? When the news of a man who beat his wife blue-black at the embassy broke because of a zero-match of their DNA test, it was such chilling news. Information had it that Dominic and Sarah got married legally. Dom got a visa and traveled to Europe for greener pastures.

Intermittently, he would visit Nigeria and spend time with his wife while also processing her travel documents. In the space of five years, they had three children together. Luckily too, there was green light about their travel processes and procedures.

Dominic then returned to help his family sail through. It was at the embassy that the bubble burst. Dominic is not the father of his three children; a situation that infuriated him to go physical with Sarah.

She lost a tooth from that public disgrace. Where are the politicians who are in government for personal, family, and friends’ satisfaction? Where are those civil servants whose signature is to embezzle public funds? Those who falsify documents to suit their needs of embezzlement? Where are the bankers who siphon money through illegal means? Should that still be the order of the day even in the new year? Dear Nigerians, now that the new year is here, what do we do? Should we continue in the old mindset and lifestyle that is destroying us economically and otherwise? Or should we turn the table a little towards the positive side? It is therefore a call for all to have a personal stock-taking which will translate into the bigger society. Those whose duties are to teach, please teach well.

If you are a trader, trade well. If you are a caterer, cater well. Do not pocket monies given to you and leave guests hungry at an event.

If you are a driver, drive well, be responsible on the road. If you are a student, face your studies responsibly, knowing that education remains the best legacy, do not joke with it. In all, the greatest is to hold unto God on bended knees.

Make the New Year a fruitful one..
