Mysuru: Union minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday mocked the proposal to rename a stretch of Mysuru 's iconic KRS Road after chief minister Siddaramaiah, sarcastically suggesting that the controversial Devanur Layout in Kesare be named in his honour. "The controversial land in Kesare, now developed into Devanur Layout, can be named Siddaramaiah Layout, or a road there can be renamed," he quipped. Kumaraswamy, who was in Mysuru, also accused the govt of disrespecting the Mysuru royal family.

"If the CM genuinely wishes for something to be named after him, let him consider Devanur Layout. Why remove the royal family's name—Princess Road—from the stretch leading to KRS?" he questioned. Devanur Layout was developed by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) after acquiring land from Siddaramaiah's wife, who reportedly received 14 sites in a prime locality in exchange.

Lokayukta is investigating the allegations related to this land. Criticising Siddaramaiah's silence on this issue, Kumaraswamy urged the govt to rethink the proposal to avoid backlash. "When I was the CM, how much did I contribute to Mysuru? Let there be a discussion on what Siddaramaiah has delivered as deputy CM, opposition leader, and twice as CM,"he said.

"In 2006-2007, I allocated significant grants, approved housing projects, and improved waterways. Through JNNURM, I brought funds for the city's development. Have I ever demanded roads or areas be named after me?" he asked.
