North Charleston barbecue restaurant owner to appear on upcoming season of 'Top Chef'

Shuai Wang of Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ in North Charleston will appear on Season 22 of "Top Chef" on Bravo.

One of South Carolina's three new Chef Ambassadors will compete for $250,000 on Season 22 of Bravo's " Top Chef ." The reality competition food show first debuted in 2006 and filmed its 14th season in Charleston. Shuai Wang , owner of Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ, is facing off against 14 other chefs from across the country, preparing food for head judge Tom Colicchio and perennial judge Gail Simmons, who hails from Canada where this season of the hit show is set.

Born in Beijing, China, and raised in Queens, N.Y., Wang and his wife Corrie have been fixtures in Charleston's food scene for a decade.



The couple's wildly popular Short Grain pop-up spawned their first brick-and-mortar restaurant, Jackrabbit Filly, which recently moved into a new location in North Charleston . In 2023, they opened King BBQ, a Carolina and Chinese inspired barbecue destination that's been met with rave reviews . The 2029 Carver Ave.

destination was named one of Bon Appétit's 20 Best New Restaurants of 2024 . On "Top Chef," which premieres on Bravo March 13, Wang and chefs from across North America are cooking food that highlights our neighbors to the north. During each Thursday episode, the contestants will prepare items celebrating Canadian cuisine in Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Prince Edward Island.

A range of challenges will be representative of Canada's food and culture, with one centered around creating a dish best served cold in honor of the nation's favorite sport, hockey . Kristen Kish is the show's host this season, which will feature guest appearances from Michael Cera, Daniel Boulud and Wylie Dufresne, among many others. The winner will be awarded a $250,000 cash prize and a $125,000 flight credit to spend on travel with Delta Air Lines, according to a press release.

Season 22 premiers March 13 on Bravo. Episodes will air each Thursday night from 9-10:15 p.m.
