NORTH ATTLEBORO — The town’s new curbside compost collection program begins Wednesday and will continue every other Wednesday. Residents can dispose of all food waste, including meat, bones, dairy, shells, soiled paper towels, napkins and certified compostable utensils. The North Attleboro Solid Waste Department has contracted with Black Earth Compost, a private company.

Those interested in enrolling in the program should visit wwwblackearthcompost.com. There is a cost for the pickup.

The first 150 residents who enroll in the program will receive a free starter kit, including a curbside bin and liners, courtesy of the North Attleboro Solid Waste Department. Residents need to place their bins in visible spots on the curb Tuesday nights or before 6 a.m.

Wednesdays for pickup. Those who utilize the program can reduce their trash by 30% and that will assist the town in diverting compostable material from going into a landfill at a steep cost, the town says. “It diverts food waste and gives back compost that you could use in your garden” or other areas, Town Manager Michael Borg said.

“We pay less, that impacts your bill.”.
