Nonprofit delivers 1,000-plus stockings to local troops

Towns4Troops-SE, a nonprofit based in Summerville, celebrated a successful Santa for Soldiers Stocking Drive this season, delivering 1,113 stockings to local military service members at home and abroad, shipping 204 care packages overseas and handing out 250 free Christmas trees, among other festive initiatives supporting local troops and their families. “We are incredibly grateful to the community for their willingness to support our mission and show holiday cheer to hundreds of military service men and women stationed throughout the Lowcountry and overseas this season,” said Rick Walls, executive director of Towns4Troops-SE. “Each stocking is made with love and careful attention to detail.

We couldn’t do what we do without our troops keeping us safe and free. We look forward to continuing to carry out our mission throughout the year with additional fundraisers and support drives.” The Santa for Soldiers drive ran from Nov.



1 to Dec. 10, 2024. With the help of businesses and friends, Towns4Troops-SE successfully collected dozens of non-perishable items to fill each stocking.

Businesses and community members also contributed monetary donations. Stockings were sorted, packed and hand-delivered to students at the U.S.

Navy Nuclear Weapons Station in Goose Creek; Coast Guard members on the USCG Cutter Hamilton returning home to Charleston; and Coast Guard members shipping out from Charleston on the USCG Cutter James. Towns4Troops-SE additionally helped prepare meals for veterans and families at Fisher House Charleston and donated 145 pounds of bulk supplies to a local veteran home. The nonprofit even assisted the Naval Weapons Stations with its third annual Trees for Troops effort, supplying free trees and holiday refreshments for local active-duty military men and women.
