Noida: The Noida Airport is getting an overwhelming number of requests from Airlines regarding parking their aircrafts, especially at night. This has encouraged the authorities to increase the number of parking bays to facilitate more aircrafts. Due to which, they are adding nine more parking areas to 25 existing bays.
This extension at the Noida Airport will also help in hosting aircrafts at the time of crunch at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. The Noida Airport, scheduled to start commercial operations from April next year, is expecting about 50 lakh passengers in the first year of its launch. NIA CEO Christoph Schnellmann on Saturday told TOI that the estimated footfall is a very significant landmark to achieve for any big greenfield project nearly half of its capacity in such a timeframe”.
“We are expanding the apron position beyond the original plan even before the airport gets operational. We are seeing a lot of interest among airlines whom we have signed up with. They want to base aircraft here at night, which is a large number of demand for night parking in NCR.
We have made 25 parking bays, but we are adding nine more due to the rising demands,” he added, quoted by Times of India. Almost 70 of them are booked for over 2-3 years now by the IndiGo Airbus A320 fleet due to Pratt & Whitney engines issues and planes of grounded GoAir, said the media report.
