LP shops for over 20m members, unveils congress timetable Nigerians are praying hard for the pains inflicted on them by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to end by 2027, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared. This was as the Julius Abure-led Labour Party (LP) launched an ambitious drive to expand its membership to over 20 million. National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, was quoted as saying, on Sunday, that with Ondo State in its kitty, Oyo and Osun states would be next.

While describing Ganduje’s declaration as wishful thinking, the acting publicity secretary of PDP in Oyo, Michael Ogunsina, stated that every Nigerian in every state was praying for the pain inflicted on them by the APC to end by May 2027. The statement issued in Ibadan, yesterday, reads: “There is no difference between the power band called APC and forest gangs called bandits. Both spread devastation, sorrow and tears wherever they capture.

“Is it not a shame and a shock that while the APC leaders’ greed for power and more power is rising, our national grid is collapsing every hour? We shudder to wonder where the APC and its government still get the courage to talk to Nigerians about the election.” The LP initiative aims to strengthen the party’s presence nationwide and boost its political influence. The party rolled out an online membership registration and revalidation exercise to attract new members across the country.

Additionally, the party announced a timetable for its congresses, starting at the ward and state levels, which will run concurrently with the membership revalidation process. In a communiqué issued following the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held virtually on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, confirmed the approval of the restructuring of the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration. A new Directorate of International and Diaspora Affairs of the party has also been established.
