No trace of mum-of-three Khasha Smith one year since she was last seen on FaceTime call with friend

A man appeared in court last month charged with the mum-of-three's murder - but her body is yet to be found.

The 35-year-old was last seen on a FaceTime call with a friend on October 10, 2023. Khasha was reported missing from Calder Grove in Edinburgh on January 5. Concerns had been raised by her family, who had not heard from her since November 4 last year.

Following extensive enquiries, police believe Khasha to be dead. However, her body is yet to be found. A man appeared in court accused of her murder last month.



John Byrne, 39, of Edinburgh, was also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice. He made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody. Detective chief inspector Bob Williamson, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, appealed to the public last month come forward with information about Khasha’s disappearance.

He said: “Our thoughts remain with Khasha’s family at this extremely difficult time and they continue to be supported by specialist officers. “They are understandably devastated and it is vital we get answers for them. “Extensive enquiries remain ongoing to trace Khasha and I would again encourage anyone with any information regarding her disappearance to contact police, as a matter of urgency.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital, so please get in touch.” Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on quoting incident number of January 5 2024.
