No swimming allowed: Warning after 13-year-old drowns in irrigation canal

The boy was believed to be playing in the irrigation canal before disappearing under the water in the late afternoon.

Government departments have warned parents not to allow their children to swim in irrigation canals. The warning comes after a 13-year-old boy drowned on the afternoon of 15 October while playing in the water gully. The current in the open-air concrete channels is deceptively fast and children risk being swept away should they be overcome.
