KANNUR: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's Political Secretary, P. Sasi, has filed a criminal defamation case against PV Anwar MLA. The case, registered in the Thalassery and Kannur courts, comes after Anwar allegedly made defamatory allegations against Sasi, which Sasi claims are politically motivated.
Sasi's lawyer had issued a legal notice to Anwar on October 3, demanding a public apology and the retraction of the allegations. The notice warned of criminal proceedings if Anwar failed to comply. Despite the ultimatum, Anwar did not respond, prompting Sasi to proceed with legal action.
In public meetings, press conferences and a formal complaint to the CPM state secretary, Anwar made multiple allegations against Sasi. These included accusations of involvement in gold theft, mediating financial disputes for monetary gains and inappropriate behavior toward women by contacting complainants who visited the Chief Minister’s office. Anwar also claimed that Sasi's actions were tarnishing the reputation of the Chief Minister and the party.
He alleged that local leaders were preventing him from meeting the Chief Minister, further accusing Sasi of interfering in significant cases, including the burning of Sandeepanandagiri's ashram and the solar scam, to protect vested interests. Despite the gravity of the allegations, the CPM decided against investigating the claims. The party's state secretariat expressed confidence in Sasi's performance, describing him as a responsible political secretary.
In his complaint, Sasi emphasized that the allegations were baseless and intended to malign his reputation. His lawyer’s notice demanded Anwar express regret for his public remarks, but the lack of response led to the current legal proceedings..
