Prayagraj: The mela police has made it clear that there is no proposal to ban clicking selfies or making reels on peak snan days and said they would request all tech-savvy visitors, particularly youngsters, to spend bare minimum time near ghats for taking pictures and creating content to ensure smooth crowd management. A senior mela cop told TOI that the reports doing the round that mela police has restricted clicking selfies or making reels on peak snan days was not correct. "Mela police has drafted an elaborate crowd management plan for all six main snan days anticipating the influx of devotees flocking to prominent ghats to take holy dip.
Spending too much time on ghats clicking selfies and making reels will lead to overcrowding. Thus, mela police will soon issue an official appeal to all tech-savvy visitors to leave the ghats soon after taking dip to ensure that others do not face any inconvenience." The mela police anticipates maximum crowd during six main snan days – Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchmi, Maghi Purnima, and Mahashivratri.
"In view of the anticipated crowd on the main snan day (peak hours) there will be shortage of space on the ghats. Cops will be adopting a comprehensive crowd management plan with AI technology and regulating the flow accordingly so that there are no chaotic situations," the official added. The mela police will be issuing detailed advisory for reel makers, YouTubers, digital creators, and selfie seekers soon.
Moreover, dedicated police teams will be deployed to regulate the flow of devotees at key 32 entry/exit points..
