The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the North American country's national police service, on Sunday claimed that the alleged network of criminals linked to Indian government in Canada is "unprecedented" but poses no immediate threat to the public. Earlier, on October 14, RCMP, in a press conference, alleged that agents of India have a role to play in "widespread" acts of violence in Canada. However, RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brigitte Gauvin revealed that there was "no imminent threat" behind the announcement and the police serivice "had been planning this proactive approach for some time.

A number of efforts were undertaken, including presenting the evidence to the Indian law enforcement and a meeting between the officials from the two sides,” she said, as quoted by CBC. “However, those attempts were unsuccessful.
Indian media outlets were presenting ‘false’ reporting on the matter, and we wanted to ‘correct the record’,” the officer added. The claims from RCMP have further escalated the tension between India and Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last year made some serious allegations against India when he announced in the House of Commons that Canada had evidence linking Indian agents to the killing of Canadian Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
However, India strongly protested against the statement and demanded solid proof regarding the allegations. "It is absolutely an extraordinary and outrageous situation, one that is unprecedented here in Canada," she said.
She also claimed that they have warned 13 Canadians since last year that they could be the targets of Indian agents. She further claimed that some of them received multiple threats following that. New Delhi has denied the allegations and has claimed that the Trudeau government has not provided solid proof.
