Hitesh Oberoi, founder & trustee of Plaksha University, on Wednesday said that outdated curriculum and no focus on acquiring right skills are some of the greatest challenges of higher education in India. He further said that we need to bridge the gap between academia and industry. “There is a huge disconnect between academia and industry.
What is being taught in colleges is different from what the industry needs. Not enough focus on acquiring the right skill, outdated curriculum, infrastructure is stuck in the 90s in most institutions. I think we need to bridge the gap between academia and industry,” Oberoi said in conversation with Nalin Mehta at Network 18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025.
Oberoi then further said that Plaksha University is trying to provide students the experience that they will receive at foreign institutions at a fraction of their cost. Additionally, Oberoi said Artificial Intelligence will make some jobs redundant but it will create more opportunities, create new products, it can help provide education and healthcare to every Indian, which will help in creating new jobs. He also expressed his views on growing Global Capability Centres (GCC) centres in India.
He said though India has never been 2%-3% of sales for any MNC but in many cases India comprises 10%-20% of the workforce of many companies. He said that high end jobs are been outsourced to India in the past few years..
