Berhampur/Bhubaneswar: Days after seven students of govt-run Parala Maharaja Engineering College near Berhampur were expelled from their hostel for allegedly cooking beef , the college authorities said the students faced action for violating rules that prohibit cooking inside the hostel rooms, regardless of the type of food being prepared. College warden Raghunandan Swain said following a complaint against the seven students, an inquiry was launched. “It was found that they had cooked food.

An induction cooker was found from them. Cooking is prohibited in the hostel. There was no evidence that beef or any other meat was being cooked,” Swain said.



The college authorities emphasized that the expulsion was not related to the type of meat being cooked, but rather the act of cooking itself. According to the official order issued by the dean of students welfare on Thursday, the students were expelled “for their involvement in restricted activities” in violation of hostel rules . The seven students, however, are allowed to attend classes.
