Bengaluru: The Bangalore International Airport Limited ( BIAL ), which operates Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), stated on Sunday that it has not changed its flight information display system . This response came after a series of social media posts raised queries about the matter. Online posts claimed the airport had removed Hindi from its flight information display boards.
A video circulating on X shows display boards announcing information in Kannada and English, but not in Hindi, sparking a conversation about language use in public spaces, especially those that cater to a wide range of travellers. Some online users questioned the practicality of the change, while others supported it. Those questioning the move also asked if the airport believes that only those who know English and Kannada visit Bengaluru.
"There has been no change in our flight information display system. In line with established practices, the displays continue to feature English and Kannada to effectively assist passengers. Additionally, the way-finding signages throughout the terminals are displayed in English, Kannada, and Hindi," a BIAL spokesperson said in a statement.
