No. 4 Florida State baseball's offense didn't show up, and it's pitching staff couldn't contain a No. 23 Wake Forest's lineup in a run-rule loss.

Florida State baseball had no answer for an explosive Wake Forest offense on Saturday, out hit 13 to three in a 12-0 run rule loss at Dick Howser Stadium. A day removed from the dramatic Max Williams walk-off win over the Demon Deacons, the Seminoles (25-5) offense no-showed, and the pitching staff struggled to generate wiffs at the plate. Joey Volini entered his start after back-to-back complete games with double-digit strikeouts in both games, however, he lasted just 2.

1 innings against Wake Forest. He allowed three walks, balked once, struck out three and allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits. Wake Forest's Dalton Wentz recorded an RBI single in the top of the first to open the scoring, followed by a solo home run from Jimmy Keenan in the second.

The Seminoles were quickly down 2-0 as the game entered the third inning, and the Demon Deacons plated five in the third to blow the game open. Wentz hit a three-run home run with no outs after a lead-off double and a walk. Volini remained in the game after the home run, and while he struck out one, he allowed a single and a double that set up Wake Forest for back-to-back RBI singles and a 7-0 lead.

Ben Barrett replaced him and got out of the inning. Barrett would hit one batter with a pitch and allowed a double and a walk in the fourth, with run scoring because of a wild pitch on the walk. Payton Manca recorded two outs in relief before he allowed a three-run home run to Matt Scannell, extending the lead to 11-0.

While the Seminoles' pitching staff struggled to cope with the Demon Deacons' offense, FSU produced little at the plate. The three hits were tied for the lowest output this season for the Seminoles. Of the three hits, Gage Harrelson recorded two, with Jaxson West the only other player to collect a hit.

West, however, would leave the game in the fifth inning. The rubber match between FSU and Wake Forest is set for 1 p.m.
