The No. 3 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's hockey team captured its ninth consecutive victory of the season, winning 5-3 against Bemidji State at 3M Arena in Minneapolis on Thursday night. Minnesota moves to 10-1-0 on the season with the win.
Their only loss came in overtime against Omaha on Oct. 12 in Las Vegas, 2-1. Brody Lamb scored two goals to lead the way for the Gophers.
Related: Minnesota Gophers National Signing Day roundup Follow us on Facebook Minnesota jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Brodie Ziemer and Lamb within the first six minutes of play. The Beavers responded near the end of the period with a goal by Eric Martin but Minnesota's Oliver Moore responded less than 50 seconds later, making it 3-1 heading into the second period. Bemidji State was able to get another goal, this time from Reilly Funk, but the Gophers again responded, as John Mittelstadt found the back of the net nearly four minutes later at the 9:50 mark to give the Gophers a 4-2 lead.
Minnesota played great defense throughout the rest of the game, only allowing one more goal off the stick of Bemidji State's Kirklan Irey. Lamb scored his second goal of the game via an empty netter, where the score stood final at 5-3. The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday in Bemidji with puck drop scheduled for 6 p.
