COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Wade Taylor IV scored 17 points and Zhuric Phelps added 16 as No. 23 Texas A&M erased a 16-point deficit Wednesday night in a 71-54 victory over Southern. The slow-starting Aggies (4-1) shot 23% from the field in the first half (8 for 35) and fell behind 39-25 at the break.
Texas A&M used a 19-0 run midway through the second to repel Southern’s upset bid, outscoring the Jaguars 46-15 in the final 20 minutes. Jordan Johnson had 19 points for Southern (1-4). He helped the Jaguars build their big early lead by hitting a trio of 3-pointers in the first half.

J. (AP) — Freshman Ace Bailey scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 24 Rutgers to a 74-63 win over Merrimack on Wednesday night.
It was the second straight wire-to-wire win for Rutgers (4-0). The Scarlet Knights beat Monmouth 98-81 on Friday. Freshman Dylan Harper added 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Rutgers.
Adam Clark led Merrimack (1-3) with 22 points and six assists, and Sean Trumper added 10 points. Rutgers was 7 of 17 from beyond the arc (41%). Merrimack was just 4 of 24 from 3-point range (17%).

Tomislav Ivisic had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sears missed all five of his shots, four of them 3-point attempts, and didn’t return after heading to the bench with 11:27 left. Alabama scored 13 straight points midway through the first half to build a 36-19 lead.
Clifford Omoruyi’s layup capped the run while Illinois missed 11 straight shots. The Tide went up by 18 points. Illinois sliced the deficit to eight in the second half but never got closer.
NO. 3 GONZAGA 80, SAN DIEGO STATE 67 SAN DIEGO (AP) — Graham Ike bounced back from early foul trouble to score 20 of his 23 points in the second half, and Ryan Nembhard added 19 points and 10 assists as No. 3 Gonzaga ran past San Diego State 80-67 on Monday night in a showdown of future Pac-12 opponents.
Sixth man Braden Nuff had 10 points for Gonzaga (4-0), which was playing away from Spokane for the first time this season. The Zags avenged an 84-74 loss to SDSU last year, which snapped their 59-game nonconference winning streak. Nick Boyd scored 23 points for the Aztecs (2-1), while BJ Davis had 15 and Wayne McKinney 11.
Both teams reached the Sweet 16 last season, the Zags for the ninth straight time. Gonzaga will move from the West Coast Conference, where it has dominated for most of the last quarter century, into the reconstituted Pac-12 beginning in 2026. Gonzaga will become the eighth member along with holdovers Washington State and Oregon State, and fellow newcomers Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, Utah State and Colorado State from the Mountain West.
