The No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team swept the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday night, extending their win streak to 24 matches. The Huskers move to 27-1 overall and remain undefeated at 17-0 against Big Ten opponents.
Iowa's record now stands at 10-19 overall and 4-19 in Big Ten play. Six Huskers finished with at least six kills each against the Hawkeyes and the team posted a .472 hitting percentage, the best mark in a Big Ten match for Nebraska since 2017.
Related: Huskers' Bergen Reilly earns another Big Ten weekly honor Follow us on Facebook The Huskers also held Iowa to a .082 hitting percentage thanks in part to nine blocks. Harper Murray recorded 11 kills and seven digs for Big Red and Taylor Landfair had seven kills and three blocks.
Merritt Beason had seven kills and three blocks and Rebekah Allick contributed six kills and five blocks. Andi Jackson provided seven kills and Lindsay Krause had six kills. Nebraska dominated the match throughout out, owning advantages in kills (50-25), digs (46-28) and blocks (9-1).
Lexi Rodriguez led all Huskers with 11 digs and Bergen Reilly led the team in assists with 41. Iowa never really came close over the three sets, especially in the first one. Nebraska went on a 4-0 run to open play and eventually brought the score to 6-1 and then 12-5 following consecutive kills by Beason, Murray and Jackson.
After Nebraska built up its lead to 16-7, they went on a 9-2 run the rest of the way and closed out the first set with a 25-9 win. The second set started Iowa tallying a 7-3 lead thanks to a couple of aces early on. Nebraska eventually grabbed its first lead of the set at 9-8 thanks to a couple of consecutive kills from Jackson and Landfair.
The Huskers then built up a 12-8 and then a 17-11 lead. The Huskers finished the set with two kills from Jackson, a block from Reilly and an ace served by Reilly to close out the second set 25-16. In the third set, Big Red went up 3-0 thanks to Krause and Leyla Blackwell registering back-to-back kills and an ace by Reilly.
The Huskers went up 8-5 and then 12-6, before widening the margin further to 18-11. Nebraska grew its biggest lead of the set at 20-11 before eventually closing it out 25-17 to finish off the match. Nebraska will next host No.
6 Wisconsin on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
