NLEX taps 6-9 Watkins as import

NLEX finally got an import for the coming PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup after signing up former Penn State standout Mike Watkins as its reinforcement for the mid-season conference.Listed at 6-9, Watkins is fresh off a stint with Piratas in the Venezuelan pro league where he averaged 13.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in 29 games.He built his reputation in college as a solid defensive player, which saw him earn a spot in the Big Ten All-Defensive team in 2018.NLEX hopes that Watkins' defensive skills could blend well for the Road Warriors core made up of Robert Bolick, Matt Nieto, Baser Amer and Jhan Nermal.Watkins is coming in to take the spot of original import choice Ed Davis, an NBA veteran, who had to beg off last week due to "personal matters."The Road Warriors will make their conference debut on Nov. 28 when they face the NorthPort Batang Pier at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
