N.J. university on alert after unruly ‘flash mob’ activity, school says

Rowan University is taking precautions on campus after recent "flash mob activity."

Rowan University has taken efforts to secure parts of its campus Saturday evening after recent “flash mob activity,” the university said in a statement. On Friday night, a large group of people who weren’t Rowan students had gathered on campus and were acting “unruly,” said Joe Cardona, a spokesperson for the university. There was a lot of activity, and it was an “overwhelming” size crowd, he said, adding that there were no injuries or damage reported.

He referred other questions to police. Rowan University police declined to comment. The university said that “out of an abundance of caution,” it would be closing the front doors of the student center at 8 p.



m., with the rear patio doors remaining open until 1 a.m.

just helps control the situation,” Cardona said. The university said all regular activities are still scheduled, but that police and security would “conduct extra patrols in the area.” The Rowan Boulevard business district will also be closed to vehicle traffic from 10 p.

m. to 3 a.m.
