Nissan North America is going to get a new CEO after a dwindling year. Will he be able to save the Japanese brand from going kaput? Nissan North America is struggling quite a bit and their sales are quite low for the year. One of the major reasons for their downfall has been instated to not have ample hybrid options in their lineup and some reports say that the Japanese brand, if not saved, just has around 12-14 months left.
Nissan needs a turnaround and they need to be quick with it. They have hired Christian Meunier to lead the North American operations of the brand. He was the former CEO of Jeep and served on the executive committee for Stellantis.
His venture with Nissan is not new as he has worked with the brand previously and was also the global president of Infiniti at one point. What Nissan needs right now might just be what Meunier is great at. He was the man behind Jeep’s 4xe hybrid lineup which has quickly become the go-to models in their lineup but the Jeep brand overall was struggling quite a bit under him with poor sales as well with 2022 and 2023 being quite bad years for sales for Jeep in the past decade.
Christian Meunier will replace Jeremie Papin who will now become Nissan’s chief financial officer and Meunier will be reporting to Guillaume Cartier, who is the brand’s chief performance officer. In an interview with Bloomberg, Meunier said, “I will work my butt off with the team to put the business back on track, to get your profitability up, to get the sales to grow again, because I know it’s possible.” Nissan’s never-ending struggles might either be sorted by Meunier or he will drive the brand into the ground.
His experience with off-road SUVs and hybrid system is what Nissan needs right now to stay afloat in the market but we will have to see if the really comes up with products which can rival the competitors.
