The National Institute for Sports (NIS), Lagos will be encouraged to play a more strategic role in the new order being triggered for sports under the leadership of the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Malam Shehu Dikko. Speaking while receiving the Director-General of NIS Professor Olawale Moronkola who visited him in Abuja on Wednesday, Dikko said, “I’m glad to have you on this visit, It is important to acknowledge that under your impactful leadership, we are having a better NIS. “Nevertheless, we are looking forward to having the NIS play a very important role in the new direction we are charting for our sports.

We shall give all needed support to the NIS to strategically play its statutory roles towards the accomplishment of our plans for a new course for our sports that needs better coaches and sports administrators.” He further encouraged the DG not to relent but to be pro -active, dynamic and visionary so that all can work together as a team. In his response, Professor Moronkola congratulated the NSC Chairman who he described as a tested sport administrator.



The NIS helmsman said based on Malam Dikko’s experience, knowledge and expertise, he would take sports to a new direction. The DG enthused that things will change for the better for sports under the Chairman. He assured that the NIS will give him all necessary support to ensure he succeed in repositioning Nigerian sports while seeking for better funding, involvement of NIS in sports programmes in the country.

“Sir I assure you that all hands will be on deck to support your vision and mission for our sports sector,” he said..
