LAGOS – NIPCO Plc has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s petroleum industry reforms, emphasizing its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s downstream gas sector. NIPCO’s Senior Executive, Mr. Ramesh Kansagra, expressed the support during a recent meeting with the President, where he also highlighted the company’s alignment with Tinubu’s goal of promoting gas as a transitional fuel, especially with initiatives like the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).

The company plans to scale up investments in gas infrastructure, including its ongoing 100 km gas pipeline from Lagos to Ibadan. He noted that CNG offers a cost-effective and cleaner alternative for motorists, adding that the Federal Government’s free CNG conversion kits further support this shift toward sustainable energy. He also highlighted the organization’s commitment to the Federal Government’s economic agenda.

According to him, NIPCO recognized the potential of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) over 15 years ago when it sought government approval to establish the infrastructure for motorists to switch to gas. He added that the foresight aligns seamlessly with President Tinubu’s vision of promoting gas as a transition fuel. Kansagra emphasised that the administration’s reforms would bring significant benefits to Nigeria’s economy, particularly in the gas sector.

He explained that the reforms are paving a new path for motorists to adopt CNG as a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels. He commended President Tinubu’s proactive policies, such as the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), which has made strides in expanding access to CNG-powered transportation. “The president’s advocacy for gas as an alternative energy source reflects the global shift towards cleaner fuels, and it comes at an opportune time for Nigeria,” Kansagra stated.

To further bolster the Federal Government’s energy goals, NIPCO has committed to scaling up its investment in gas infrastructure. This expansion will allow more motorists and industrial users to benefit from the economic and environmental advantages of gas-powered vehicles, plants, and equipment. The company is currently the sole company constructing a 100 km, 18-inch gas pipeline from Lagos to Ibadan along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a project costing USD 100 million.

He expressed optimism that the move toward cleaner energy sources in transportation would positively impact the economy by reducing the sector’s reliance on fossil fuels and contributing significantly to Nigeria’s environmental sustainability goals. NIPCO’s partnership with the PCNGi exemplifies how public-private collaboration can drive the development of CNG infrastructure for the public’s benefit. NIPCO pledged continued support for President Tinubu’s efforts to achieve cleaner energy usage across Nigeria and reaffirmed its full commitment to the government’s vision.
