Nintendo Switch 2 is only a few weeks away. The upcoming Nintendo console has already sparked discussion among gamers and collectors, especially about the gaming editions. As per the announcement, multiple Switch games will have their Switch 2 versions, including some of the most renowned ones.

However, the discussions are mostly concerning the distinctions between physical and digital game formats. Precisely, the introduction of Game-Key Cards and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition has raised confusion about their content and functionality. The Switch 2 is scheduled to hit the global console market on June 5, and with the introduction of this next-gen console , players will also be introduced to Game-Key Cards, a hybrid between physical cartridges and digital downloads.

Generally, traditional cartridges contain full data of the game, but these cards are more like a key to download the complete game from the internet. Once players download, they need to insert the physical card to start playing the game . This new concept has been introduced to blend the tangibility of physical media with the convenience of digital access.

This specific approach will massively benefit larger-sized games that often don't fit the capacity of a standard cartridge. It will help these games to maintain their presence in the physical market. Anyway, this model didn’t satisfy everyone.

Instead, it has raised concern among collectors and players who love to get complete physical copies of games. The blend of the virtual download process and the requirement of the physical cards to access the game blurs the lines between physical and digital ownership, impacting user experience severely. Several first-party Nintendo Switch games will get their Nintendo Switch 2 versions.

To this point, things were fine, but the confusion started when Nintendo Care started giving different responses regarding the packaging of these games. Initially, sources mentioned that the packaging will include both the original game and an upgrade pack. So, players have interpreted that these games will come with a Switch 1 cartridge and a download code to access the Switch 2 upgrades .

When they asked Nintendo's customer support, some replied that the code will be there, which means the Switch 2 upgrades are not on the cartridges, but to others, it said all the content will come on the Switch 2 Edition cartridge. This has created a massive ambiguity among gamers about accessing the Switch 2 edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and many other games on the next-gen console. In general, players will get the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of these games for US$69.

99. However, those who have the base version already on Switch 1 need to pay less. For them the price will depend on which game they are trying to upgrade.

For instance, the Switch 2 edition of both Zelda games will cost US$9.99. Nintendo is trying to revolutionize the Switch gaming experience with the Switch 2, but with ambiguities like these, things are getting confusing for gamers.

Up to this point, Nintendo doesn’t release any statement to clear these confusions, but a clarification from the company is necessary to make things better for the gamers and clear the cloud of confusion..
