Night brawl between cousins turns fatal for 1

Ludhiana: An old family feud turned deadly on the Rupnagar road on Tuesday night when a fight between two cousins escalated into a fatal encounter near Jhar Sahib village. Chamkaur Singh, 36, allegedly killed his cousin Rachpal Singh, 52, in a dagger fight. The incident shook the local community.

Police report suggests that Rachpal Singh, a truck driver from Gumanpur village in Majitha area, was on way to Baddi in Himachal Pradesh when he encountered his cousin Chamkaur Singh of Sathiala, Beas, who was driving in the opposite direction. The cousins, already at odds due to an unresolved family dispute, stopped their trucks and had a heated argument that turned violent quickly. They attacked each other with kirpans and dahs (traditional knife-like weapons).



Chamkaur struck a fatal blow to Rachpal’s neck. The alleged killer also sustained injuries to his arm during the fight. At 12:53 a.

m. on Wednesday, Chamkaur called 112 to seek medical assistance for both. Authorities believe he was unaware at the time that his cousin had succumbed to his injuries.
