The tourists were said to have their phones confiscated before being placed in an immigration detention centre at the airport.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, through NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, expressed concern over their well-being.The Commission has urged Cape Verdean immigration authorities to treat the tourists with respect and dignity, and to place them on the next available flight to Dakar, from where they can connect back to Nigeria. The statement read, “The attention of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has been drawn to the case of six Nigerian tourists who travelled from Senegal to Cape Verde for a vacation.

Upon their arrival, they were detained, accused of not having enough funds, and their phones were seized. They were then placed in an immigration deportation camp at the airport.”The report further revealed that the detained tourists are enduring distress, with one of them suffering from a medical condition and lacking access to necessary medication.
