has opened up about the moment she was "ridiculed" at the Oscars for the odd way she clapped, which some social media users compared to a seal. 57, was photographed for the Hollywood issue and appeared in a video on Instagram with her co-star Dev Patel, when she referenced the moment. In the video, tells Dev, "I know what I do when I clap," leaving her former co-star laughing.

"I've been sort of ridiculed for that, where I'm like clapping like this," she adds while imitating herself. "I have seen that," a giggling Dev responds. "I try now to clap like this," Nicole says while clapping a little more demurely.

Fans loved Nicole referencing the clapping, with one Instagram user writing, "Nicole knows the clapping memes šŸ¤£šŸ’€." "Nicole doing the clap again šŸ˜šŸ¤£," another added "Dev and Nicole! Lion reunion šŸ’›," a third said, with a fourth adding, "Dev and Nicole are so cute." "Nicole is always the prettiest in the room," one fan said.

"Nicole Kidman!!!! So iconic ā¤ļø," another wrote. Nicole told the reason behind her odd clap in 2017, with Kyle Sandilands saying, "I told everyone you were clapping like that because you had the rings on and you didn't want to damage the rings." Iā€™m thinking about Nicole Kidman clapping at the Oscars ā€” Charlie Little (@ALittleOutlook) "You are so right, Kyle," she said.

"It was really difficult because I had a huge ring on which was not my own, but was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it." "It was really awkward and I was like gosh, I want to clap," she added. "I don't want to not be clapping, which is worse, right - 'why isn't Nicole clapping?'" During her interview with the magazine, Nicole also spoke about losing her mother, Janelle, sharing what she meant to Nicole's work and career.

"She was my compass in a way," Nicole told the publication. "Itā€™s like losing that, but at the same time going, 'Okay, well, this is for her then.' So much of what she wanted for my sister and I was to create women in this world who felt like they could express themselves and have opportunities, especially things she didnā€™t have from her generation.

" She continued, "She loved my career, she really did. She would be there through all the ups and downs, all of it. Her essence has been pretty much the driving force through my whole life.

I wish she could have seen this part of it. She was very excited to see , and she was excited to see too, but she didnā€™t get to see either of those." Nicole also said about her career, "It can be really hard, especially if youā€™re very present and emotional and in it.

And then thereā€™s an enormous amount of sheer joy. "That was one of the greatest pieces of advice I was ever given once: Donā€™t think ahead to something bad happening. Stay in the moment when itā€™s good, because you need to nourish during that time.

You will have the fortitude to ride out when itā€™s not. If youā€™re already not allowing in the nourishment of the joy and the good times, thatā€™s the wrong way to live.".
