Port Moresby’s, National Football Stadium field two hosted an intense U19 women’s competition between PNGNRL BID teams from NGI, Central and NCD teams. The game is said to be an opportunity for young female players to gain experience and put to test what they have learnt in the PNGNRL Bid academy training. NGI U19 women’s coach Lynford Gori said the event has given the team deserving experience to come out and play against other zones players.
NGI defeated Central, but went down to NCD, returning home with mixed bag of results, but something to build upon. “We trained hard to come to for this tournament, but few things are still holding us back like our line speed, communication and set plays. “Hopefully by the next NRL Bid academy competition we will make it to the finals,” Gori said.
“The competition back in Rabaul is not as competitive like it is in Port Moresby and Lae, where they have running competitions. “This is where we lacked in the match fitness. “But it was a good experience and definitely we will need to improve our competition back home.
“We will come better the next time. “A lot of the girls are new to travelling out like this and to play especially rugby league. “Most of the players came out from soccer and AFL backgrounds.
” He said this was a good experience for them and knows that many of them have learnt many new things..
