The San Francisco 49ers said Deebo Samuel was hospitalized after Sunday's game. After a wrist injury limited him in practice, the star wide receiver played just four snaps in a 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Samuel required an oxygen mask on the sideline after attempting to play in the Week 7 matchup.

On Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Samuel is in the hospital with pneumonia and fluid in his lungs. There's currently no timetable for his return. "I think it started acting up in the middle of the night Saturday night or early Sunday morning and then it just kind of evolved as the day went," Shanahan said of Samuel, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner .

"Once we found out he had the fluid in his lungs and stuff after the game, then I believe they sent him over there." Worried fans wished Samuel a speedy recovery on social media. Tim Nwachukwu/Getty Images "This is horrific," a fan wrote .

"Best wishes to Deebo." "My guys can catch a break," a 49ers fan said . "Prayers up Deebo.

" "Wishing him a fast recovery," a fan wrote . "This is really scary to see." "Now it makes sense why Deebo didn't play much at all yesterday," a fan said .

"Pneumonia is no joke. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't play against the Cowboys." Issues continue to pile up for the 49ers.

Already playing without Christian McCaffrey, Shanahan confirmed Monday that Brandon Ayiuk will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee. Meanwhile, George Kittle is also day-to-day with a sprained foot. San Francisco's offense could be considerably short-handed for Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
