NFL Draft: Syracuse’s Savion Washington signs with Los Angeles Chargers

com Leila Frankina | Contributing Writer Syracuse, N.Y. — Former Syracuse offensive tackle Savion Washington has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent where he will be reunited with tight end Oronde Gadsden II .

Washington, a 6-foot-9, 340-pound lineman from Akron, Ohio, transferred to Syracuse for his final season after playing three years at Kent State and one at Colorado. He continued to thrive on the O-line at Syracuse, where he started all 13 games at right tackle. He played 1,021 snaps for the Orange and only allowed three sacks on 674 dropbacks.

He improved his Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade to 73.9 and also received a 69.3 run-blocking grade.

At Kent State, Washington helped the offensive unit average over 28 points per game and over 400 yards of total offense per game. He transferred up to play for Deion Sanders at Colorado, where Washington was part of a maligned unit that gave up a school-record 56 sacks during a 4-8 season. Sanders’ son, Shedeur, the Buffaloes’ starting quarterback, was sacked 52 times, prompting the offensive line to be overhauled after the season.

Washington played 660 snaps at right tackle and received a 69.4 pass-blocking grade by Pro Football Focus. At Syracuse, Washington helped open lanes for running back LeQuint Allen Jr.

, who rushed for over 1,000 yards. He helped protect Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord, who set the ACC and Syracuse single-season passing record. Washington ran a 5.
