Former Miami Dolphins pass-rusher Dion Jordan has admitted he didn't have his life in order when he got to the NFL and self-sabotaged his career. Jordan had been selected with the third overall pick in the 2013 draft class after flashing potentials of extremely high-level play at Oregon , but had been seen as a risky selection due to his lack of production and reported off-field issues. In his rookie season, Jordan played a limited role while again showing glimpses of exciting play, before his second season turned out to be a disaster.
He failed two drug tests for performance-enhancing substances and given a six-game suspension, before missing his third season entirely after failing another test. Jordan's first three years of his career were derailed, needing to meet multiple stipulations to be reinstated into the league, but he remained on the sidelines for his fourth season before eventually being released by the Dolphins . He later signed for the Seattle Seahawks , eventually playing for them towards the end of his fifth season in the league after struggling with a knee injury and playing the best ball of his career with four sacks in five games.
But he was handed another lengthy suspension after failing a drug test, before the Seahawks released him, spending stints with the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers to close out his career. Speaking on “The Fish Tank” show , Jordan has spoken about how his career folded out, admitting that he wasn't in a good space when he got the league. He said: "I didn’t have my life in order.
My life outside of ball wasn’t in balance. You know, it wasn’t what it needed to be to match all of that stuff and I struggled, dude. I struggled coming in.
I struggled understanding the plays and the playbook. "When I left the facility, it didn’t help because I’m out partying. I’m enjoying the money I have and I’m just putting myself behind the eight-ball.
I’m hurt, you know. Sometimes I’m missing my rehabs, so that’s not helping." Jordan had taken full accountability, stating: "Ain’t nobody else’s fault.
And look, I watch these kids now and I realize what I was messing up." Despite his off-field issues that hampered his career, Jordan had always shown flashes of impressive play when he had been on the field, going down as one of the bigger 'what if's' in recent years. **Want to watch more live sports?
